![]() It should be noted that the strip will be planned, as much as possible, based on the natural gas strips approved in State Outline Plan 37, while examining the mutual effects between power lines, natural gas pipes and other infrastructure, in order to reduce environmental impact. The plan, as mentioned, will examine the possibility of connecting the Israeli power grid to Cyprus, similarly to the line from Cyprus to Greece and the European grid, as part of the vision of Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, Israel Katz, to turn Israel into an Energy powerhouse, while bolstering its international status and transforming it into an energy bridge connecting east to west. The cables length is planned to be 150 km. The plan will designate territory for a marine strip for the passage of a power and infrastructure cable from the Ashkelon area to Haifa, including on-land connections to the power grid, and will allow the conduction of power in accordance with the required scopes in the different timeframes. ![]() Furthermore, the cable, which will be laid parallel to the Israeli coastline, is planned to connect the Israeli power grid to Europe through Cyprus, with an option to connect to the gulf states through Jordan and to Egypt, along the planned Peace Railroad route – all in order to receive backup for the local grid and export green energy produced in Israel. The cable will conduct power produced mostly using renewable energy in the south of the country, to the high-demand areas in the center and northward. The State Council for Planning and Construction has ordered today (Tuesday 4.7.23) to promote the planning and establishment of the submarine power cable initiated by Minister Israel Katz, after the matter was professionally examined at the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure.
